About The DAISY Award Program
DAISY is an acronym for Disease Attacking the Immune System. The program was started in 1999 by the Barnes family in Seattle, Washington, who had a son that suffered from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes' were incredibly touched by the care their son received from his nurses during his illness. They started the DAISY Foundation as a way to honor nurses across the country and internationally, who provide extraordinary care with kindness and compassion.
